“Terra Nova”, Russia

U-Film Malta provided a number of film production services to Terra Nova in 2008. This action-packed production was directed by Alexander Melnik and released that very year. It was well received by predominantly Russian cinema goers. This was one of the first productions, which involved U-Film Malta, which at the time operated under the name Film Corporation.

The film stars Konstantin Lavronenko, Andrei Feskov, Marat Basharov, Pavel Sborshchikov, Sergei Zhigunov, Aleksandr Samoylenko, Tommy ‘Tiny’ Lister and Ingeborga Dapkunaite. It was filmed in Russia, Ukraine, Malta and Norway and utilised a number of unique locations.

The film is set in an anti-utopian future where the death sentence is prohibited and prisons are overcrowded. To solve this problem, prisoners are transported to a desert island in the north to live and work there, but their journey turns into a survival quest, as they deal with the harsh disciplinary conditions of the regime.

In 2008 Director of photography Ilya Demin was awarded for “Best Cinematography” on 19th Sochi Film Festival “Kinotavr”.
